Top Reasons Why You Should Respond to the 2020 Census

For every person counted, $3,700 in federal funding flows every year to our communities for food, healthcare, affordable housing, roads, and senior programs.  If Santa Fe County has even a one percent undercount, we will lose close to $56 million in funding over the next 10 years.

Everybody counts, no matter their immigrant status, and kids count too! Protect our future and our children’s future.

YOU can support our communities and help them thrive again by taking just five minutes to fill out your Census. It’s fast and confidential.

You can respond to the 2020 Census by:

The U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2) mandates a headcount every 10 years, of everyone residing in the United States: in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Island areas. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens, and noncitizens. The first census was conducted in 1790 and has been carried out every 10 years since then.

For every person counted, $3,700 in federal funding flows to our communities for programs such as meals, healthcare, affordable housing, roads and senior programs. Millions of dollars in funding for OUR communities is at stake!

Postcards will begin being mailed in mid-March 2020 with a personal code to self-respond to the Census via Internet, telephone or mail. If you have a PO Box, a Census worker will drop the form off at your home. We encourage everyone to self-respond. If you have not responded by May, Census workers will visit your home.
